Fats Waller is credited with providing the foundation for modern jazz piano. He was a composer and performer, singing many of his own songs of which Ain’t Misbehavin’ and Honeysuckle Rose are his best known. He also has the distinction of writing the first musical written by a Black man for Broadway. Unfortunately, it was for written for an entirely white audience. Less known is that Waller was also a prolific organist and recording many albums of playing the instrument.
