Another “forgotten” songwriter is Academy Award winner, Hoagy Carmichael. Born in 1899, in the 30’s & 40’s he was one of the top Tin Pan Alley songwriters. He worked with several amazing lyricists in his day like Johnny Mercer, Ned Washington and Frank Loesser. You may not know the name but I’m almost positive you know one or several of these famous songs, “Stardust” “The Nearness of You”, “Skylark”, “Georgia On My Mind”, “Heart and Soul” and the Academy Award winning song, “In the Coll, Cool, Cool of the Evening”.
